Welcome to the Department of Social Work at Ersta Sköndal University College! 

Our department is located in the beautiful surroundings of the residential area of Sköndal, just 20 minutes south of the capital city Stockholm. Sweden has developed a well-know social welfare-model with a unique combination of collaboration and partnership between the public, the private and the not-for profit (Civil Society) sectors. The strength of this model is the benefits for its citizens with a high-quality and tangible output of health care, social services and a right-based approach, regulating the social and human rights.

Within this particular context, the development of the profession of social workers has been an important priority, as well as the academisation of the relative new discipline of Social Work, with possibilities of research and the enhancement of scientific knowledge in human change processes, on the individual, community and structural levels.

The job opportunities are vast for graduates from ESUC, as our comprehensive programmes prepare for professional work in the social field with its different challenges and thus open up for stimulating and interesting social work in public, private as well as non-profit organisations. Even if social work in public sector at the municipality level is dominating in Sweden, our students are to be found within NGOs and associations such as Save the Children, Red Cross and in international humanitarian and development assistance. Our education has a good reputation and offers a wide variety of work in the criminal rehabilitation system, working with elderly care, in psychiatry, social work with children and the youth, social work with homeless people, treating issues around domestic violence and the care of disabled people. Many students are future leaders in social work.
