Bakgrund
Victor A. Pestoff tog sin grundexam (Bachelor of Arts, BA) i statsvetenskap 1963 vid California State University i Long Beach, USA. Han försvarade sin doktorsavhandling i statsvetenskap vid Stockholms universitet 1977. Sedan undervisade han vid samma lärosäte i nästan 20 år: sex år på Institutionen för statsvetenskap och 13 år på Företagsekonomiska institutionen. I mitten av 1990-talet flyttade han till Södertörns högskola där han blev professor i statsvetenskap. Han utnämndes sedan till lärosätesprofessor i statsvetenskap vid Mittuniversitet i Östersund 2002. Han gick i pension 2008.
Forskningsinriktning
Professor Pestoff studerade kopplingen mellan politiska partier, folkrörelser och frivilliga organisationer i de nordiska länderna i sin doktorsavhandling. I 30 år efteråt undersökte han politiska och demokratiska aspekter av kooperativa och frivilliga organisationer samt den sociala ekonomin. Han har publicerat rapporter och artiklar om konsumentorganisationer och konsumentinflytande och skrivit artiklar och böcker om svenska kooperativa organisationer. Han har dessutom författat och publicerat en rad artiklar om svenska näringslivsorganisationer, förhandlingsekonomin i Norden och om den offentliga sektorns omvandling i Central- och Östeuropa, samt redigerat en bok om det sistnämnda. Han har dessutom skrivit två böcker om den tredje sektorn och välfärdsstaten. Flera av hans artiklar är översatta till olika språk och tre av böcker är tillgängliga på japanska.
Han anslöt sig nyligen som gästprofessor till Enheten för forskning om det civila samhället vid Ersta Sköndal högskola i Stockholm. Hans nuvarande forskning fokuserar på medborgarnas deltagande i och medproduktion av välfärdstjänster, samt välfärdsstatens (åter)demokratisering.
